Hourly foot-traffic indices for 1,184 European retail streets from November 2024 through January 2025, covering the peak holiday trading period.
This dataset covers one holiday season of pedestrian activity on 1,184 retail streets in 14 EU countries, from 1 November 2024 through 31 January 2025. Each street has one reading per hour, giving a simple panel of street ID, timestamp and footfall index. Readings are indexed against each street's October average, set to 100, so you can compare trends across streets without knowing absolute counts. Street metadata covers city size band, country, retail mix and whether the street is pedestrianized. Public holidays and late-opening days are in a companion calendar. The index isn't a head count, and comparing absolute volume between two streets won't work. Sensor outages affect about 3 percent of street-hours, marked with a null reading and a status code. Southern Europe has fewer streets than Germany, Austria and the Benelux countries, so the panel is not balanced geographically.
